Lisa has always embraced the big challenges…it’s just who she is.
Growing up the daughter of an immigrant Mexican mom and American Dad in the small border town of Douglas, Arizona, Lisa knew that life was going to be filled with challenges. But she knew what it would take to succeed…Early in her life, her mom, Fran, made it clear to Lisa that service, sacrifice and hard work were the keys to success. She knew that she would have to fight to get to the next level…. And Lisa did…graduating in the top 5% of her class at Douglas High School. She went on to attend the University of Arizona, Pima Community College and earned her Bachelors and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. She knew that to succeed in any career, it would take courage, determination, and focus… |
That’s why she followed in the entrepreneurial footsteps of her Mom, Fran, who after learning to be a floral designer in high school opened her own flower shops when Lisa was growing up.
Indeed, after a successful career in higher education, Lisa sought new opportunities. And, like her Mom before her, she took on the big challenge of becoming a small business owner and a licensed real estate agent in 2018. In just three years, Lisa earned “REALTOR of the Year” for the Tucson Association of Realtors (TAR), was elected to the Arizona Association of REALTORS in 2022 and named President of the Tucson Chapter for the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). She also serves as a Commissioner and Treasurer for the Pima County Tucson Women's Commission. |
The fact is, Lisa grew up knowing that nothing would be given to her.
There was no family legacy to follow, no nepotism favors to be given out and that she would have to succeed on her own merits.
It’s why Lisa Nutt has put in the hours of hard work knowing that people are depending on her to get things done. And as a single mom, Lisa knew that it was all on her to, as she always says, “get it done and get it done right.”
That’s why she’ll always be there for you and the people of Ward 2.
As your member of City Council, Lisa will be responsible to the needs of our neighborhoods and work to earn your vote. She’ll fight to build our community up, not serve the special interests of a political machine’s legacy.
And she’ll bring business, labor and community leaders together to solve problems …not play political games with Tucson’s future.
The fact is, Lisa leads with a life dedicated to service.
For the last five years, she has worked with business and community leaders across the city and county to help folks connect to and understand the resources available on the path to home ownership and eviction and foreclosure prevention. During the pandemic, she led TAR's efforts in organizing a housing conference to make sure the federal funds available were being accessed by those in need.
Lisa also stepped-up to re-energize TAR's relationship with critical housing non-profits like Habitat for Humanity. Since 2020, she and a group of other REALTORS volunteer every quarter to help build homes.
Lisa's background as an educator means she continues to teach.
She conducts financial literacy workshops throughout the Tucson area and partners with the YWCA's Women Business Center to facilitate sessions for current and aspiring business owners in English and Spanish. As chair of the Professional Development committee for TAR, she convenes panel discussions and presentations with experts in the areas of water, the environment and land use, among other topics of importance.
As your City Councilmember for Ward 2, Lisa believes that common sense economic development, affordable housing and improved public safety are among Tucson’s highest priorities.
From creating jobs to building real affordable housing opportunities to keeping our neighborhoods safe, she understands that these three issues will create the economic stability so important to building a better, brighter future for the people of Tucson.
